The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
