The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
