Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.
“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.
Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
